Hiroshima Nagaski Download Synopsis:
"The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki changed the world forever, but a walk through both cities today show how far the world has come since those tragic days. Those who survived the attacks, the hibakusha, or "explosion-affected people", can never truly move on from their experiences of August 6th and August 9th, 1945. A group of hibakusha attempted to start a new life in America and it is the stories of those people who artist and filmmaker Shinpei Takeda and producer Eiji Wakamatsu seek out in their documentary Hiroshima Nagasaki Download.

These two old school friends go on a road trip down from Vancouver through the United States speaking to 18 survivors of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These people share not only their traumatizing experiences of August 1945, but also how they have tried to reconcile their Japanese heritage with the culture of their adopted homeland, the country which bombed Japan over 65 years ago. For their part, Takeda and Wakamatsu attempt to "download" the almost unbelievable stories of these men and women so that they can be communicated to Japan's current generation."

Movie Passes Giveaway: What to Expect When You're Expecting ~ Toronto, Halifax Ottawa & Winnipeg

Movie Passes Giveaway Time! I have passes to giveaway to the upcoming expecting comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting for screenings in Toronto, Halifax Ottawa & Winnipeg this week!

Here is the film synopsis: "Inspired by the perennial New York Times bestseller of the same name, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING is a hilarious and heartfelt big screen comedy about five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood.

Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don’t stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy’s husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who’s expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn’t so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a “dudes” support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco’s surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date?

A kaleidoscopic comedy as universal as it is unpredictable, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING finds humor and uplift in all the unexpected trials and triumphs of welcoming a child into the world. The film stars Cameron Diaz, Jenifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Chace Crawford, Brooklyn Decker, Anna Kendrick, Matthew Morrison, Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock, Rodrigo Santoro, Ben Falcone and Joe Manganiello."

I'm so excited that the amazing Indonesian action flick The Raid: Redemption is hitting up theatres in Toronto this week. I saw it at TIFF in 2011 where it won the Midnight Madness Audience Award and I loved every minute of it - fantastic fighting, intense performances and the force that is Iko Uwais (see him in action here!); this is an film that all action fans NEED to see.

From the Synopsis:
"Iko Uwais stars as RAMA a member of a special team (JAKA by Joe Taslim, BOWO by Tegar Satriya, ARI by Ananda George, WAHYU by Pierre Gruno and BUDI by Verdi Solaiman) arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord named TAMA played by Ray Sahetapy. The apartment block has never been raided before, never been touched by police. Seen as a no go zone, the building has become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched. Making their move in the break of dawn, they work their way up the building under the cover of silence, steadily controlling the location one floor at a time. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover, TAMA orders a lock down on the building with all lights out and all exits blocked. Now stranded on the 6th floor with all communications cut and with TAMA sending out a call to arms, the special force team must fight their way through every floor and every room not just to complete their mission, but to survive their bloody ordeal."

A big thank you to Alliance Films for the giveaway. Cheers!
